Safety & hiring tips

HomeHire is a marketplace, not an agency. Families hire directly, are the employer and do their own checks. You choose whom to interview and hire.

Free for families until January 2027, and candidates never pay.

Check references yourself

Ask for relevant work references, contact them directly and discuss duties, dates, reliability and experience. Compare what you hear with the candidate's account and ask about any gaps.

Confirm identity and right to work

Verify identity and right to work yourself using the lawful process for your location. Confirm any role-specific qualifications or driving credentials. Obtain any required consent and get qualified advice if you are unsure about your obligations.

Interview and agree a paid trial

Discuss the actual duties, schedule, experience and expectations. Agree any paid trial in advance, including hours, duties and pay, and comply with local employment rules. A trial is not unpaid work.

Put your arrangement in writing

Agree duties, working hours, pay, overtime, leave, expenses, notice and any live-in arrangements in writing. Families and workers agree directly; the family remains responsible for employment obligations.

Use reviews as one source of context

Two-way reviews after a confirmed hire let families and candidates describe their experience. A confirmed work start is required. Each side has 30 days from the start date to submit a review. Reviews are moderated; the blind period ends when both sides submit or 14 days after the first review, and each review still needs approval. Reviews do not replace your interviews, references or other checks.

Protect privacy and use messaging carefully

Briefs are private by default; publishing a listing requires your explicit choice. Keep household addresses, entry codes, identity documents and children's details out of public text. Messaging begins after mutual interest. Share sensitive information only when needed, be cautious about unexpected payment requests, and use safety and reporting if something concerns you.

Plan payroll and employer costs

Payroll support is through our partner, subject to confirmed availability and arrangements. HomeHire does not run payroll. Worker pay and employer costs are separate from HomeHire's free services.
