Why Miami housekeeper quotes vary so much

Miami has two housekeeping markets, which explains the spread from about $17 to $75 an hour.

  1. Home cleaning and regular housekeeping, such as a condo in Brickell or a family home in Kendall or Doral. These roles usually fall in the $17–$28/hr range shown by the HomeHire salary guide and Care.com.
  2. Private-estate housekeeping, such as a waterfront home on the Venetian Islands, Miami Beach, Coral Gables or Palm Beach with a house manager and other staff. These roles call for laundry and wardrobe care, care of fine finishes, turndown service and discretion. One SoFlo Domestics listing for a full-time live-out housekeeper in Miami Beach offered $38–$40/hr. householdstaff.agency puts experienced estate housekeepers at $45–$75/hr and Coral Gables full-time live-out roles at $90,000–$160,000 a year.

Before you set a rate, decide which kind of role you're hiring for. Size of home, laundry and ironing standards, cooking, pet care, a second language and travel with the family all push pay up.

Housekeeper pay by area

Pay follows the type of home more than the ZIP code, but published examples cluster as follows:

  • Miami Beach, Venetian Islands, Fisher Island, Key Biscayne: estate-level roles. One listing offered $38–$40/hr for full-time live-out work (SoFlo Domestics).
  • Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Pinecrest: a mix of family homes and estates. householdstaff.agency quotes $90,000–$160,000 for full-time live-out roles in Coral Gables.
  • Brickell, Edgewater, Downtown, Aventura condos: often part-time and close to the citywide $17–$25/hr range.
  • Palm Beach and Boca Raton: large seasonal homes. Budget for estate rates and agree season dates.

Live-in vs live-out housekeeper

Live-out housekeepers work set hours, often Monday to Friday, and go home. Live-in housekeepers get a private room as part of the package, which suits large homes or families who need early, late or weekend cover. In either case, put the schedule, days off and rest time in writing. A live-in arrangement doesn't mean the housekeeper is on call around the clock.

Full-time, part-time, temporary and a few hours

  • Full-time (40 hrs/week): about $35,000–$52,000 a year at $17–$25/hr, and more for estate roles.
  • Part-time (e.g., 3 days/week): common for condos and smaller homes. At 24 hours a week and $17–$25/hr, that's about $408–$600 a week.
  • Temporary or seasonal: for snowbird season, preparing a home before arrival, or after a move or renovation.
  • A few hours: a weekly or fortnightly clean, laundry and ironing, or help before a party.

You choose the arrangement on HomeHire and agree pay directly with the candidate.

What the government data shows, and its limits

The BLS (OEWS, May 2025, released 15 May 2026) counts 22,370 maids and housekeeping cleaners in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro, with a median of $16.52/hr ($34,360/yr), a mean of $16.81/hr and a 90th percentile of $20.33/hr. OEWS covers hotels, hospitals and cleaning companies, and leaves out workers employed directly by private households (BLS OEWS scope, bls.gov/oes/oes_emp.htm). Treat it as a floor for comparison. Private housekeepers in Miami are usually paid more.

Your costs as an employer

When you hire directly, you are the employer. Budget for federal household-employer taxes (see IRS Publication 926) and Florida reemployment tax, which may apply depending on the wages you pay (FloridaCommerce and the Florida Department of Revenue publish the rules). Add paid time off and holidays on top. Florida has no state personal income tax. Payroll is available through our partner, subject to confirmed availability. This page isn't tax advice.
